Obon at Como Park

We will be taking our annual place on the Obon Festival stage at 5pm on Sunday, August 18th.

The event begins at three and features no less than three local taiko groups at various points in the program. There are also vendors, crafts, demonstrations, and food… But we know what’s important, right?

Sister Cities Day

Harisen Daiko returns to play alongside the Mississippi for Sister Cities Day in Minneapolis!

As ever, we are representing the relationship between Minneapolis and Ibaraki in partnership with the Minneapolis Ibaraki Sister City Association (MISCA).

The event is from 1-5pm, and we’ll be kicking tings off with the big drums at 1:00 pm.

Join us and the Minneapolis Ibaraki Sister City Association for their annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Featuring the MISCA Haiku Awards Ceremony.

The event is from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, May 12th (Mother’s Day).

SPNSCC Cherry Tree Celebration

Seven performers, on naname chu, shime,and odaiko, on a patch of concrete befpre a gently sloping grassy hillside.

Harisen Daiko performing “Of Sky and Clouds”

We will be joining the Saint Paul / Nagasaki Sister City Committee for their Cherry Tree Celebration on May 4th.

The event runs from 9:30-11:30 am, but we’ll be opening proceedings with our performance as early as 9:25am.

In addition to awesome taiko, there will be a tree blessing, dancing by Sansei Yonsei Kai, and crafts. 

Event occurs at the Mannheimer memorial, near the Butterfly Lot, accessible by Nason Place.

Join us, see the trees, and May the 4th be with you (not a StarWars Day event).

Issho III, MPLS Music in the Parks

Harisen Daiko joins Taikollaborative and Enso Daiko for a combined performance on the shores of lake Harriet. This is a rare (if presently annual) opportunity to see three local taiko groups perform selections from their repertoire as well as perform together in community pieces.

The event is free to the public.

  2. See us on Mainstage from 12:30-1:30pm on Sunday, August 14th for the big show.

Talk to taiko people, see drums up close, and of course hear taiko songs and other unreasonable acts performed live.

Minneapolis Sister Cities Day

Harisen Daiko returns to Minneapolis Sister Cities Day to bring the sound of taiko drumming and represent the sister city relationship between Minneapolis and Ibaraki, Japan.

We will be performing at the beginning of festivities, at 1:00pm.

Join us as we celebrate Minneapolis Sister Cities with a FREE Ice Cream Social & gathering at the Nicollet Island Pavilion, Minneapolis. This family event features international entertainment, ice cream and refreshments. The event highlights all of Minneapolis’ International Sister Cities, with a special spotlight this year on the 30th anniversary of our Sister City with Harbin, China.
